The Summer Hikaru Died Anime Officially Announced

The Summer Hikaru Died by Momokuren is a gripping horror story that has been continuously growing in popularity. Due to this, it comes as no surprise that the anime has been confirmed despite the manga only having 24 chapters at this point in time. 

Based on a post by the author, it was confirmed that the anime adaptation has been greenlit along with confirmation on the 5th volume of the manga releasing on June 4th, 2024.

Apart from the announcement of the anime adaptation, no further information regarding the release date, cast and more was revealed. However, taking into consideration the usual schedule of anime, we can expect the series to be released between mid-later 2025.

The Summer Hikaru Died Storyline

The Summer Hikaru Died is a fascinating story following the close friendship of Hikaru and Yoshiki, two boys who are extremely attached to each other. However, after Hikaru suddenly goes missing and turns up again one day, Yoshiki seems to notice a difference in his demeanor.

It was soon shockingly revealed that the boy was not Hikaru but an otherworldly being who had taken over his body and wished to spend more time with Yoshiki, threatening his death if he could not accept it.

While initially fine with it, Yoshiki soon begins to question his decision to accept this imitation of his best friend as his existence also begins to affect their village and its people.

The complex nature of the relationship shared between the 2 main characters, stunning designs as well as an intriguing plot make this series have very high potential for its anime adaptation.
