Frieren Anime Inspires Fan to Stop Knife Attack

In response to a knife attack on a train in Taichung City, Taiwan on May 21st, Ruixian Xu was one of 17 civilians who stepped up to the occasion and stopped the attacker. While 3 civilians were injured from the attack, their quick response prevented potential disaster.

When recognized for his bravery in the Taichung City Hall, Xu revealed himself to be an Otaku – a man who immerses himself in Japanese anime, manga, video games and culture. Furthermore, he laid emphasis on how the Frieren anime inspired him while saying “If Himmel was there, he would’ve done the same thing”. He also wished to shed a better light on Otakus while improving the public’s perception towards them.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Story

While on the journey to defeat the Demon King, the elven mage Frieren forms unbreakable bonds with the hero Himmel, the priest Hieter and the dwarf warrior Eisen. While Frieren herself was not able to understand the worth of their bond at the time due to her long lifespan and her perceived insignificant time period spent with them, she soon realizes its impact after experiencing the death of her former companions.

Determined to not repeat the same mistake and learn to understand those around her more, she sets off on a journey again while aiming to make meaningful connections. Living on the principles of the Hero Himmel, she wishes to make the most of life while protecting those who are still living under the oppression of the demons.
